Every year, the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America designates a special Sunday as "Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry Prayer Day" during which the faithful are familiarized with the work of ABMDR, offer prayers for patients and volunteers of the organization and encourage congregants to join the ranks of the registry.
This year's ABMDR Prayer Day was held on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at St. Leon (Ghevontiants) Armenian Cathedral during a service presided by the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
Led by ABMDR President Dr. Frieda Jordan, representatives educated parishioners and provided information about the deeply rewarding process of helping save a life by becoming a bone marrow stem cell donor.
Also present at the service was Naz Atikian, President and Founder of the Family Rescue Fund. The Family Rescue Fund was established in 2014. The organization that helps improve quality of life in Armenia and the U.S. by supporting underprivileged families through health, social, and educational programs. The Fund’s work has benefited numerous causes, including the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the Soldier’s Home Rehabilitation Center in Yerevan (Zinvori Tun), the Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Armenia, the Pediatric Department of the Nork-Marash Medical Center, the Gyumri Orphanage, and individuals and veterans throughout the regions of Armenia.
A special prayer was also held for Edmond Hovakimyan, a veteran of the 44-day Artsakh War who was present at the service.
